Ten years after the September 11 attacks: A new day

Rebecca Odegaard, C.S.B
and Tony Lobl, C.S.
Tuesday, September 13, 2011
2:00pm EDT – 3:00pm EDT
As people around the world are assessing anew the lessons of September 11, 2001, and the progress that’s been made, there is still plenty of room for prayer. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, and the terrorist threat still needs addressing. Yet the same Christ-power that helped so many people rise to the occasion during the original attacks is still with us and is declaring, “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev. 21:5).
Bring your questions and concerns to our two guests—who were in their respective cities (New York and London) when major terrorist attacks took place and who will offer healing, restoring thoughts.
A spiritual defense against bullying
Lois Carlson, C.S.B.
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
2:00pm EDT – 3:00pm EDT
According to 2010 statistics, one in seven children in kindergarten through grade 12 either is a bully or has been bullied. Cyberbullying that uses social media is also a growing challenge. In some cases, young people are driven to suicide through pressures put on them by bullying.
This chat will explore the ways that prayer can empower children to face up to bullying and rise above it. Parents and young people are encouraged to join the chat, ask their questions about how to deal with bullying and how to break the cycle. Each participant’s identity will be kept confidential. You’ll have a thoughtful, non-condemning, and healing opportunity to communicate with this Christian Science practitioner and teacher.
About Lois Carlson: Lois Carlson has been a Christian Science teacher since 1991 and in the full-time healing ministry of Christian Science since 1975. Her childhood memories include the challenge of moving six times and trying to fit into seven different schools. It took her a long time to feel secure in friendships. Lois raised two sons and now lives with her husband in downtown Chicago.
Is more money the answer?
Eric D. Nelson, C. S.
Tuesday, August 16, 2011
2:00pm EDT – 3:00pm EDT
If you’re facing financial worries, it’s not unnatural to think that if you only had more money your problems would be solved. But there’s a different answer, right at hand. The Bible presents examples of ways that God has met people’s needs, often unexpectedly. In teaching of God’s loving care for all, Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you” (Matt. 7:7). Bring your questions to this chat with a Christian Science healer to find out how prayer can reveal new ways to meet your needs.
About Eric D. Nelson A native of San Diego, Eric currently serves as the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Northern California. After graduating from Principia College and working for three years for The Christian Science Monitor on various television programs (in Boston and Washington, DC), he spent a large portion of his time as a marketing consultant, a video producer, and the co-founder of a Silicon Valley start-up company connected with the travel industry.
In addition to his work with the media and state and federal legislatures, Eric also works as a Christian Science practitioner, available to those seeking healing through spiritual means. He now lives in Los Altos.
Prayer for government
Thomas Mitchinson, C.S.
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
2:00pm EDT – 3:00pm EDT
News reports make clear that many governments are struggling to meet their financial obligations and still retain benefits and services to their citizens. In Europe, members of the Eurozone have been working hard to stabilize Greece’s finances, and to help other economies. The United Kingdom has recently had strikes over a possible reduction in pension benefits. In the United States, strongly held views in both major political parties have made establishing budget priorities difficult.
Prayer with a conviction of God’s goodness can help bring peace and unity to our governments and inspire those who are striving to find practical solutions to these difficulties. That same conviction can also help you feel more of God’s government in your life. Join this chat with your questions on how to pray effectively about these issues for yourself, your country, and the world.
